Mission: New Kinds of Festivals
To model and build a better world through parties and festivals which qualitatively improve the lives of their participants.  To craft ecologically and culturally sustainable events that catalyze similar regional festivals.  To engender fun, daring and self exploration.  To create new intentional communities which partially sustain themselves hosting festivals and extraordinary events.

Inspirations
Part of the inspiration for this new event is there are currently three major US festivals representing different elements: Burning Man (Fire), the Rainbow Gathering (Earth), and Water Woman (water).  Villages In The Sky would be missing the Air festival.  Part of the purpose of VIS is to strengthen this four-sided Elemental Celebration.

Leave the right trace
Still we are building a new kind of festival.  Villages in the Sky is a celebration of practical energy solutions and whimsical areal playgrounds.  While two of the other major elemental festivals focus on leaving no trace behind after the conclusion of their festival, we are leaving behind traces that will inspire and energize positive change.  Traces of the world we know exists!

Festivals to Promote Us
We are going to promote the June 2010 Ozark Villages in the Sky at least three different events before the festival itself.

  • Burning Man (Aug 31 thru Sept 7) – look for our cool tower and turbine between B and D and 6:30 and 7:00 not far from the alternative energy zone and center camp.
  • Harvest Festival (Sept 10 thru Sept 13) We will be installing our display tower at this Wisconsin based festival hosted by the musical group Wookiefoot.
  • Tree House Village Opening Party (Oct 2 thru 4).  This is a private event and you can not participate unless you are invited.  It is opening the prototype/testbed tree house village at Acorn Community which is currently under construction.

The Main Event:
The Villages in the Sky Festival will be in early June of 2010 on land of East Wind Community in the Ozarks of Missouri.  For the two months (April and May) leading up to the festival there will be preparatory construction on site, especially lofting many platforms which festival participants can adopt to add their own construction to.

Guys – the word “based” seriously beeds to be reigned in. You just refered to a “Wisconsin Based Festival” … what the hell does that mean? Why can’t you just say “a festival in Wisconsin”.

Death to those who scribble the language!

Guilty. i dont think we have anything in Wisconsin, but i certainly could use “based” less often.

Some of what’s written here confuses me. I think I know what you’re trying to say:

By “Villages In The Sky would be missing the Air festival” do you actually mean “Villages In The Sky would be the missing Air festival?

“We are going to promote the June 2010 Ozark Villages in the Sky at least three different events before the festival itself”

Do you mean that you are going to promote the Villages In The Sky at 3, (at least) festivals. How are you going to promote something that happened in June… in August?

What kind of traces are you going to leave?

      Dearest Solona:

It is a bit confusing. Some of the text was lifted from other documents without sufficiently careful editing. Specifically, the “missing” comment comes from where we were looking at several “elemental” festivals. Burning Man is the fire festival, Rainbow Gathering is the earth festival and VIS is the “missing” air festival.

So we have been promoting Villages in the Sky at multiple events. Specifically, we sent a bunch of people to Network for New Cultures Summer Camp, this years Rainbow Gathering in New Mexico. We had a camp and wind power demonstration site at this years Burning Man festival in Nevada. And we had a test festival (which we affectionately called a Testival) at Acorn Community in October, where we launched our first tree house village. VIS Ozarks is happening in June of 2010 all the rest of these events have happened in 2009.

As for positive traces, we have left tree houses and zip lines at Acorn and we will be leaving these plus windmills, steam powered systems and giant play structures behind in the Ozarks.

Thanks for keeping an eye on what we are doing. We will clean up the text soon hopefully.
